St. Patrick’s Day Parades show the best of the county – Doyle

Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Andrew Doyle, said the St. Patrick’s Day parades in the county on Sunday, 17th March, showed what was best about County Wicklow. He singled out the Guinness World Record that was achieved in Wicklow Town, with the most St. Patrick’s in one place at the same time.

Deputy Doyle said, “I was delighted to have attended the Rathdrum St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Numerous parades occurred right throughout the county, including Aughrim, Newtownmountkennedy, Greystones, Baltinglass, Carnew, Bray, Wicklow Town, Arklow and others.”

“Year round, there are numerous local and community organisations that work in every town, and the St. Patrick’s Parade is an excellent opportunity to showcase their work and talent to everyone. Much of what goes on in local organisation often goes unnoticed as much of it is behind the scenes, and so the parades are the best opportunity for them to show they have to offer. Equally, the parades that took place were a superb opportunity for new local businesses to promote themselves to all the attendees at the parades. Added to this, it was just as useful for existing businesses to bring their message to all in attendance.”

“I’d like to congratulate the organisers of the Guinness World Record victory for the most St. Patrick’s in one place over the weekend. Some 946 St. Patrick’s turned out in Murrough Car Park in Wicklow Town! This is a great achievement by the organising team including Eugene Dooley, Geoff Kane, Wicklow Town Council and Eolas in order for this to happen.”

“The sense of community spirit displayed at the Wicklow parades this year remains unrivaled, and I hope it continues in the years to come”, concluded Deputy Doyle.
