Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Andrew Doyle, has welcomed the announcement that an allocation of just under €900,000 is to be made to County Wicklow for the provision of the county’s housing needs. The funding that has been set aside for county will have a focus on families with specific needs and also for those with a disability, enabling them to live independently in the community.
Speaking after the allocation was made, Deputy Doyle said, “I am very pleased to see that the Minister of State for Housing, Jan O’Sullivan, has provided this funding for County Wicklow. As part of capital investment in local communities, the Minister has prioritised projects to transform communities and support local jobs. For example, only a number of weeks ago, €300,000 was allocated to Wicklow for energy efficient homes.”
Doyle continued, “This funding announced today will allow the local authority to address two particular matters regarding housing. Firstly, the funding will allow the specific special needs of particular families on long waiting lists. Secondly, it will allow them to acquire properties with empower people in our community, who have a disability, to lead independent lives.”
“In our county, this initiative will allow the CAS – North & East Housing Association purchase of three houses with a budget of some €483,000, while €414,000 is being made available for the Social Housing Section of the local authority for the purchase of three further houses.”
“Today’s funding comes from savings and efficiencies that have been found in the budget allocation for the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government this year. Following this announcement, I’m confident that this funding will contribute in some way towards reducing the waiting lists for social housing in County Wicklow”, concluded Deputy Doyle.
