Doyle welcomes new Real Time Bus Information signs for Arklow, Wicklow Town and Newtownmountkennedy

DublinBus_RealTimeWicklow Fine Gael TD, Andrew Doyle, has welcomed the news that three new Real Time Bus Information signs are to be installed in Arklow, Wicklow Town and Newtownmountkennedy in the coming months. Deputy Doyle raised the issue for these parts of the county in the Dáil with the Minister for Transport, who along with the National Transport Authority provided a welcome development.

After receiving the notification of the new installations, Deputy Doyle said, “It is very welcome that the National Transport Authority will be installing three new Real Time Bus Information signs shortly at key locations in Arklow, Wicklow Town and Newtownmountkennedy, after being identified as areas suitable for electronic bus signs.”

“Many people would have already been very familiar with the signs which have been in Dublin and of course in North Wicklow, such as in Bray, Greystones and Kilmacanogue, where they are several. I am delighted that that this public transport facility is now being delivered to other areas in Wicklow. The three new sites located in the three towns are set to go ahead shortly, with the funding from Government now secured. In Arklow, outside the Marine Hotel, it is awaiting ESB connection to the main grid. In Wicklow Town, the contractor is awaiting the permission of the Town Council to go ahead and build, while in Newtownmountkennedy, the works by the civil contractor are imminent.”

“Investment in electronic bus information signs is just one of the many steps this Government is taking in the modernisation of bus and public transport services for Wicklow users. For too long, people have been left without reliable information in relation to bus times in the area. These signs provide real-time information about Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann departures and arrivals and essentially provide accurate travel information and a more user-friendly service for commuters.”

“Now that three initial signs have been secured for Arklow, Wicklow Town and Newtownmountkennedy, with their installation and activation in the months ahead, I will be continuing to pressure the NTA for continued inward investment in public transport for County Wicklow”, concluded Deputy Doyle.
