Sports Partnership in conjunction with the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board, Wicklow County Childcare Committee and the HSE are promoting a return to outdoor play for the week commencing 6th July to 13th July 2014.
Deputy Doyle said, “The focus of this initiative is for children and young people Bringing Back Outdoor Play and encouraging and supporting local communities to assist in this process. Play Day is aimed at communities’ actively encouraging and supporting children in outdoor play. In Wicklow traditional and new games will be featured such as, skipping, marbles, penalty shoot-outs and relays and obstacle courses.”
Wicklow Local Sports Partnership and the other groups involved aim to support increased participation in sport and active recreation throughout County Wicklow especially across specific target groups such as women and girls, youth, older adults, people with disabilities, unemployed, disadvantaged and minority groups.”
“The emphasis is on Local communities to take part and take the initiative to host Play Days by making time for play using simple ideas, materials and equipment to provide a variety of play opportunities for children and young people in their own local Wicklow area.”
