Andrew Doyle TD speaking on the upcoming deadline said, “After a hard year of study, toil and effort, and with the next few months to look forward to a well-deserved break for all Wicklow secondary students, I want to remind both parents and students that the deadline for online applications for a third level grant is the 1st August for the 2014/2015 academic year. To apply for a student grant you will need to register an account and apply via www.susi.ie”
SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) is the single national Awarding Authority for all new student grant applications. Applications for Student Grants are assessed under the criteria set out in the Student Support Act 2011, Student Support Regulations and the Student Grant Scheme.
Deputy Doyle continued “Applications are made online and are subject to supporting documentation, income assessment and eligibility criteria. The online application system provides both students and parents with a streamlined and user friendly method to apply for a grant.”
“Through SUSI, students can earn either maintenance or fee grants, depending on their eligibility. Maintenance grants help pay for the student’s cost of living, through 9 monthly instalments deposited directly into the student’s bank account. Fee grants are broken down into three parts: a tuition fee element, a student contribution element, and a field trip element. A student’s approved course and household income determine how many of the elements of the grant a student qualifies.”
“The website is a comprehensive source of information on the student grant scheme and this year the online system also includes an eligibility reckoner, providing an approximate indication of your eligibility to a particular grant.”
“I urge all students and parents to submit their applications as soon as possible in order to avoid any delays prior to the start of the third level academic year in September”, Deputy Doyle concluded.
