AndrewDoyleTD-MeganOBeirne-KilmacurraghBookAndrew Doyle, Fine Gael TD for Wicklow/Carlow East has commended author Megan O’Beirne on the launch of her book ‘Sourced in the Wild’, a book about Kilmacurragh, which provides an insight into the unique offering of this old demesne and shows it off as of one of the best examples of botanic gardens and arboretum in Europe.

“The site has been steadily developing over the last number of years. I have always been struck by the beauty and historic significance of Kilmacurragh as well as its horticultural importance and have worked with the OPW and other relevant authorities to highlight the need to improve awareness and overall facilities at the site.

“Writer and visual artist Megan O’Beirne, in her book, captures the essence of this truly unique heritage arboretum by providing a true depiction of the beauty of the gardens intertwined with the historical significance from mediaeval times, through the times of the Anglo-Irish Acton dynasty through to modern times.

“Recognising the potentiel of Kilmacurragh, both Cllr. Irene Winters and myself were glad to welcome the then Minister Brian Hayes to Kilmacurragh in 2012 and I acknowledge his role in securing initial funding in 2013. I welcome the OPW’s continued interest and investment in Kilmacurragh House and Botanic Gardens. Improved signage has been promised and the Tea Rooms are due to open for the summer season of 2015, all of which will continue to increase awareness of this ‘hidden gem’ and to enhance the overall visitor experience.

“I have no doubt that Sourced in The Wild, an art book comprising text and photographs, will help to broaden awareness of this lesser known treasure and I wish continued success and a good summer season to the team at Kilmacurragh.”
