Major €500m Investment to create 540 Jobs in Arklow by Echelon

Local TD Andrew Doyle, Minister for Food Forestry and Horticulture, has welcomed the announcement that a new Irish based company, Echelon Data Centres is to open a new office and state of the art data centre in Arklow Co Wicklow, creating 450 constructions jobs and 90 operational jobs.

Minister Doyle said: “I am delighted that this Irish company is investing €1bm in Arklow and Dublin, especially as this company will use a number of Irish suppliers and domestic expertise in its delivery. Success breeds success and Echelons new presence here will add to our increasing reputation as a great place to do business.”

Echelon will build a 484,000 sqft data centre in Arklow on the former Irish Fertilisers Industrial site in Avoca Business Park, next to the M11 in Arklow. It is particularly encouraging to see an indigenous company making this type of commitment to a sector that we think of as being dominated by Silicon Valley giants. Indeed, with announcements like this we are adding frequently to an already impressive track record of job creation in this sector.”

Speaking at the launch Doyle said “the provision of customisable, scalable data centre facilities is key to the continuing growth of the digital economy, driven by social media, ecommerce, digital broadcasting and the internet of things. I’m thrilled that work to build Echelon’s first data centre has commenced in Dublin and will commence shortly in Arklow. I wish Echelon Data Centre every success with their Arklow operation and I look forward to visiting the site.”
