17 Schools in Wicklow to benefit from major school building programme – Doyle

“Today the Government is unveiling a major school building programme, which involves funding for Scoil Philomena, Bray, Gaelscoil Chill Mhantain, An Casadh Meidhreach, Rath Naoi,Kilcoole Primary School, Kilcoole,St. David’s Holy Faith, Co-Educational School, Greystones,Coláiste Raithin, Bray,Newtownmountkennedy Primary School, Kilcoole,Greystones Community NS, Greystones,Blessington Community College, Coláiste Bhride, Carnew, St Kevins Community College, Dunlavin, Coláiste Chraoibh Abhainn, Kilcoole, Gaelcholáiste na Mara, Arklow

KWETB Bray,GS na Lochanna, Arklow CBS, Loreto Secondary School, Bray and Avondale Community College, Rathdrum.

“This school building programme sets out over 310 individual major school building projects, which will proceed to construction between 2016 and 2021. Meanwhile the Government is also announcing today that 13 new primary and second-level schools are to open in 2017 and 2018.

“I’m very aware of the pressing need to provide more school places in Wicklow, in order to continue to meet the accommodation requirements of our growing school going population

“This funding will facilitate the provision of more school places in Wicklow and this significant investment will also support direct and indirect jobs in Wicklow. This is all part of Fine Gael’s plan to keep the recovery going. Job creation means more revenue for the exchequer and therefore more money to invest in the services people depend on such as schools.

“I know how vital it is to parents across Wicklow that their children are not just guaranteed a school place, but are guaranteed that they can learn and grow in a comfortable environment, which is conducive to study. Fine Gael is committed to ensuring that this happens.”

New training and development centre at Hacketstown a boost for South East fire service – Doyle

Fine Gael TD for Wicklow/East Carlow, Andrew Doyle, has said that a proposed new training and development centre will greatly strengthen the fire service at Hacketstown and will benefit Wicklow, Carlow and the wider South East region.

“The Department of the Environment has given the go ahead light to proceed with a proposed new fire training and development centre at Hacketstown fire station. This is very welcome news. The new centre will strengthen the fire service at Hacketstown and will be of huge benefit to Wicklow, Carlow and the wider area in serving as a regional training and development centre for the South East region.

“I would like commend the Carlow Chief Fire Officer, Gerard Guerin, for his forward thinking approach and commitment to ensuring that Carlow fire service is best equipped to meet future challenges.

“It is very important to note that Carlow fire service has won many awards over recent years for the outstanding service they provide, including three awards at the World Rescue Challenge, placed first in the complex rescue awards, second in the best technical team and third in the incident commander event.

“The proposed new training and development centre will ensure that this level of service fire service stays at the cutting edge and continues to provide an invaluable service to the area and the rest of the South East region.

“The Department of Environment confirmed that approval for the first phase of the project is subject to a maximum funding amount of €249,500 with the tender process due to start shortly” added Doyle
