An Post Agree to reopen the Consultation Process for Laragh Post Office

Fine Gael TD and Minister of State, Andrew Doyle, has today welcomed the announcement by An Post to reopen the consultation process for Laragh Post Office.

“I am pleased to receive confirmation from An Post at the consultation process has reopened for Laragh Post Office.

“An Post notified residents of its intentions to close the local post office at the end of January, meaning that residents would have to travel to Rathdrum or Roundwood to avail of vital postal services.

“I have met with representatives of the local community on this matter and we went through the different issues.  I subsequently made representations to An Post, calling on them to reopen the consultation process. We need to ensure that every possible avenue was assessed before any decision was made.

“Laragh Post Office may be of interest to businesses in the area to co locate and operate within an existing business.

“I will continue to engage with the local community and An Post during the consultation process to ensure that all possibilities are addressed before any final decision is made.”

Brexit Response Meeting In Kiltegan

Minister of State for Food, Forestry and Horticulture and Wicklow TD, Andrew Doyle, hosted a Brexit Response public meeting in Kiltegan, County Wicklow on Thursday (26th). The meeting addressed the impact that Brexit will have on agriculture and farming in Wicklow.

“The imminent British exit from the EU will have notable consequences for Irish agriculture; I feel it is vital for farmers in my constituency to be given an opportunity to voice their thoughts and concerns regarding Brexit.”

“The meeting was chaired by Carlow TD and Chairperson of the Joint Committee of Agriculture, Pat Deering. Speakers included MEPs Séan Kelly and Deirdre Clune, Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed and Chief Economist with Irish Farmers Association, Rowena Dwyer.

“Séan Kelly and Deirdre Clune shared their insights into Europe; both giving details of the latest developments in relation to Brexit and stressing the importance of Ireland remaining a strong and active member within the European Union.

“IFA Economist, Rowena Dwyer, explained the process of Brexit and highlighted some of the potential risks for Irish farming once Article 50 is triggered. She also outlined the IFA’s position on tackling the challenges presented by Brexit.

“Minister Creed spoke about the government’s approach to Brexit. He emphasised the importance of strengthening our trade relationships with other EU countries and maximising opportunities in developing markets further afield.

“I felt that a constructive dialogue between the speakers and attendees developed through this meeting and some very significant issues were raised.  Each of these issues will be summited to the Fine Gael Working Group on Brexit. “
