Government fully committed to Wicklow Film Industry

Minister of State and Fine Gael TD for Wicklow/ East Carlow, Andrew Doyle, has said that the Government is committed to preserving and strengthening the film industry in Wicklow.

Speaking after a public meeting held in Bray, Minister Doyle outlined that Ardmore Studios is well positioned in the Irish film industry.

“The film industry in Ireland is highly competitive; I believe Ardmore is very well placed to compete for all incoming business. Ardmore has a strong track record of delivering success and has been operating at full capacity for the past number of years.

“Ardmore Studios is currently 32% owned by the State with the remaining 68% in private ownership. This 68% is currently for sale as a going concern.  Enterprise Ireland is committed to supporting the film industry in Ireland and will ensure that their input and views will be included in the sale of the Studios.

“I have met with Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor, to discuss the future of Ardmore. I have stressed the with Minister the need for Enterprise Ireland to ensure that a business plan is in place for the future of Ardmore once the sale is completed”

“The Government is committed to investing in the film industry as outlined in their Action Plan for Jobs which includes the development of a film industry cluster in Wicklow. The Action Plan also provides for piloting workshops in film industry related training, providing supports and incentives and developing ancillary services.

“Ardmore Studios are a huge part of the local economy here in Wicklow, for Bray, Ashford and the surrounding areas. I will continue to work alongside Minister Mitchell O’Connor to secure the best possible future of Ardmore Studios and ensure that the film industry in Wicklow is protected”

Doyle welcomes permanent home for Greystones CNS

Fine Gael TD, Andrew Doyle, Minister of State for Food Forestry and Horticulture, has warmly welcomed the announcement by Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, that a site in Charlesland, County Wicklow, will be the new permanent home of Greystones Community National School.

“It is heartening to see this school getting a permanent home. I hope that it will help cater for the educational needs of Greystones children for many years to come. I also want to thank the parents and staff for the work they have put into the school.

“The purchase price for the new site has been agreed and the transaction is currently in the conveyancing stage of the acquisition process. The school should be completed by 2018.

“Greystones Community National School was established in 2015 with one junior infants class.

“Community National Schools schools are child-centred, inclusive, multi-belief, State supported schools which strive to provide a high quality primary education for every child in line with the Primary School Curriculum and guidelines laid down by the Department of Education and Skills.

“Greystones CNS is under the patronage of Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board. It is a state operated multi-denominational, co-educational primary. It provides children of all beliefs and none with effective life skills and a rounded education.“
