Ticket Machine to be installed at Kilcoole Train Station – Doyle

KilcooleStationFunding and works will provide for the machine in May 2014 at the platform

Fine Gael TD for Wicklow, Andrew Doyle, has received confirmation from the National Transport Authority that a Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) will be installed at Kilcoole Train Station. The station, which currently has no ticketing machine, is to be installed in 2014, allowing commuter to purchase tickets like they would at other stations on the Dublin to Rosslare Europort rail line. Deputy Andrew Doyle said this is a welcome development for commuters living in the Kilcoole and Newcastle area.

Speaking on the matter, Deputy Doyle said, “It is very welcome that a brand new ticket vending machine is going to be installed at Kilcoole Railway Station. For too long, this station has had nothing in terms of access to proper ticketing facilities for the east coast line. Because of this, I raised this matter in the Dáil with the Minister for Transport and subsequently, the National Transport Authority (NTA).”

“This week, the NTA informed me that work is currently being conducted nationwide on a programme of works to installing Ticket Vending Machines at a number of stations across the entire rail network. This includes a new ticket machine for the platform at Kilcoole at the end of Sea Road.”

“For commuters living in Kilcoole and Newcastle, travelling north or south, their nearest ticketing facilities for trains stopping in Kilcoole where either in Wicklow Town or Greystones. Now, with the installation of this new machine, they will now be able to access tickets year-round in Kilcoole. I know this will be of huge convenience to the residents and commuters in the area.”

“In the past two weeks, we’ve seen some welcome developments from Iarnrod Eireann for commuters using rail services from Wicklow. Last week, it was announced they were to replace the footpath at the level crossing in Bray. Irish Rail have committed to commencing the associated works for the new machine in Kilcoole in the near future, in order to have concluded the installation and entering into service of the new machine by the end of May 2014.”

“I very much welcome confirmation that will work will commence next year on this ticket machine at Kilcoole Train Station and I will continue to lobby for additional transportation and commuter needs for County Wicklow”, concluded Deputy Andrew Doyle.

New footbridge at Bray level crossing to be constructed in 2014 – Doyle

OldBrayLevelCrossingBridgeCropFunding secured for the replacement bridge with works to begin late next summer

Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Andrew Doyle, has received confirmation from Iarnród Éireann / Irish Rail that the footbridge over the railway tracks in Bray that was taken down two years ago on safety grounds, is to be replaced next year. The bridge is part of Irish Rail’s Bridge Renewal Programme 2014 and construction is set to begin late next summer. Deputy Doyle received confirmation this week from the Chief Executive of Irish Rail.

Speaking after the budget allocation and confirmation that will work will commence next year, Deputy Doyle said, “I’m delighted that funding has been found in next year’s capital allocation within the Iarnrod Eireann budget to build a new bridge in Bray over the level crossing. I know this will be of huge convenience to the residents in the area.”

“In 2011, Irish Rail circulated notice to local residents that the old bridge was to be removed due to its poor structural condition and lack of proper lighting during nightfall. A commitment was given by them at the time that the bridge was to be replaced and improved in 2012, but this did not happen. After discussing this matter with numerous residents over the last two years, I made numerous representations to the various public bodies in order for funding to be secured for a replacement.”

“I was delighted to see this lobby effort has paid off. The Chief Executive of Irish Rail recently informed me that from late summer next year, in 2014, a new footbridge will be constructed over the level crossing, as part of the 2014 Bridge Renewal Programme”, stated Deputy Doyle.

“The Bray Interchange is a huge for transport in the North Wicklow area. It caters for DART, Intercity, Dublin Bus and Taxi services, all from the one location. The National Transport Authority recognises this and have allocated separate funding to enhance this interchange. This level crossing without a footbridge is causing lengthy inconvenient waiting periods for residents and commuters, particularly when occasional delays occur along the DART/Rail line.”

“This replacement bridge will be huge benefit to residents, commuters and business in Bray, with enhanced provisions to preserve an extremely good safety record for the railway line and for the safety of all people using the new bridge”, concluded Deputy Doyle.
