Proposed constituency changes will be welcome news for citizens of East Carlow

carlowMinister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Wicklow TD, Andrew Doyle has stated that recommendations made by the Constituency Commission to move a part of East Carlow from the Wicklow Constituency to the Constituency of Carlow/Kilkenny, will be positive for those living in the area.

“The Constituency Commission report and recommendations reflect the changing population demographic in all constituencies across the country; in this case counties Wicklow, Carlow and Kilkenny are relevant. The Commission relies on statistics as recorded in last year’s census and, as such are considered to be the most appropriate basis upon which they recommend changes to constituency boundaries.

“The division in Carlow has caused confusion amongst constituents and presented geographical challenges for local representatives in the past.  For this reason, I felt it was necessary to establish a constituency office in Hacketstown, ensuring that those living in the East Carlow area did not have to travel too far to seek help or advice.

“It has been my privilege to represent the citizens of East Carlow for the past 10 years and have endeavoured to do so as effectively as possible.

“I’m sure this recommendation will be welcome news for people living in this area of East Carlow. An in particularly I’m sure my Fine Gael colleague, Pat Deering TD, who lives in Rathvilly, will be very pleased to have the opportunity to vote for himself at the next general election!”

Student Grant Scheme open for applications until mid-July

susiMinister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Wicklow TD, Andrew Doyle would like to remind prospective and current third level students to consider applying to SUSI for university grants.

“With the deadline less than two weeks away, I am urging all students who think they are eligible for a student grant to apply as soon as possible.  I would also like to stress the importance of supplying correct information and documentation when applying to SUSI to avoid processing delays.

“The Student Grant Scheme provides funding to thousands of Wicklow students each year, allowing them to reach their full potential at third level.

“Changes have been introduced to the scheme this year, with new measures aimed at aiding Mature Students who have previously dropped out to complete a PLC programme within the five year break period and providing maintenance grants to 1,100 disadvantaged postgraduate students”

The closing date for new application is the 13th July 2017 and 15th of July for those applying to renew their grant.
