Doyle receives reassurance that N11 upgrade is still a top priority

Following a meeting with the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Deputy Andrew Doyle has confirmed that the completion of the N11 is a priority for this Government and that although the Minister was unable to make a definite commitment regarding timing he indicated strongly and reassured that it is a top priority for his Department to get this project underway.

“The upgrade of the Rathnew-Arklow section of this road is urgently needed. Current economic conditions have slowed the Public Private Partnership process in this case due to the difficulty of  securing overseas investment into Ireland.

“Minister Varadkar advised that while a significant amount of funding has been secured domestically, there is still a requirement for further investment from abroad.

“The feedback from the Minister was positive and I am convinced of his commitment to ensuring this project progresses as soon as possible.  He also indicated that he is against the idea of tolling the N11 at Arklow to fund the road building”.

Deputy Doyle met the Minister along with his fellow constituency TD’s in an effort to highlight the concensus of determination that exists to bring this ongoing matter to a satisfactory conclusion.  Other transport issues relevant to the county were highlighted including rail services, port potentiel development as well as the associated effects on tourism of a safe and effective transport infrastructure.

“This is a positive step.  Though it is still difficult to comprehend and accept the length of time taken thus far, it is good to know that the issue is now receiving the attention it needs at Government level.  In the interests of road safety for people using this road, as well as those living adjacent to this section of the N11, it is vital that this project is completed as soon as possible.  I, along with my colleagues, will ensure it remains a top priority for this Government.”
